SozoTek Image Quality Test and Measurement systems and services bring powerful imaging science to the identification of image quality performance merits and deficits in camera products and imaging components. SozoTek combines industry-standard image test practices with SozoTek-developed, unique test methodology developed in the SozoTek labs to pinpoint, test and measure image quality deficiencies. As a result, SozoTek test systems generate quantitative results indicative of real world mobile imaging end user performance.

SozoTek test and measurement systems analyze imager performance on 18 quality parameters that evaluate the performance of the image capture, image rendering, camera module system and camera module processing functions and how these elements work together to generate a digital image. As a result, SozoTek effectively and scientifically measures performance levels in noise, exposure, linearity, color reproduction, white balance and subject failure, focus and lens aberrations, flat field, gamma, dynamic range, and other key quality parameters.

SozoTek IQS
SozoTek’s unique Image Quality Score (IQS), a value from 1 to 10 that comprehensively summarizes the merits of a given device, is calculated via a highly scientific, mathematical process that represents the expert knowledge of SozoTek image scientists compiled into a single grade.

Measured quality communicates
Many companies use proprietary test processes to assess image quality when camera modules and camera phones are in development and production. But, all companies in the supply chain need to be able to use a consistent, automated test and measurement methodology to provide reliable fact-based internal and external feedback on the image quality needed to satisfy increasing user expectations. SozoTek image quality test results use practical, standard, and consistent language and imaging industry quality terms enabling clear quality performance communication throughout the supply chain among wireless carriers, device and component manufacturers, and network and application developers.

Identifying and measuring quality deficiencies
Here are two examples of the image-quality characteristics identified by SozoTek test and measurement for mobile imaging.

Subject Failure
The top left and lower left images exhibit mild- to moderate-subject failure. The image at the top right exhibits extreme, unacceptable subject failure on one axis, unfortunately somewhat common in phone camera imager systems.

Noise and Noise Suppression
The top and lower left images exhibit unacceptable levels of visible RF and dark noise. Noise suppression is often used in camera phone image processing, but overuse generates equally poor, unacceptable images. In the top right image, excessive noise suppression results in a blurred effect.
